+ I’ve never tried yoga before, where can I start?
Our teachers are trained to support students of all experience levels. We create an environment where everyone is welcome – beginners to advanced practitioners alike. We recommend those new to yoga begin with our Slow Flow class before attending a Fusion or Vinyasa. This completely guided practice moves at a pace that allows new students more time to become familiar with the poses and feel it out in their own body. + My body is not flexible, can I still do yoga?
Absolutely! We believe yoga is for everybody, no matter how flexible you are. The more you visit your mat, the more you will see a change in your mobility and strength.
+ What should I bring to my first class?
Wear clothing you feel comfortable moving and sweating in. Bring a water bottle, yoga mat, hand towel, and an open mind. We also have these items available for purchase in each studio, check out the details below. If you’re an Ultimate Shelter member, mat rentals are free! Each of our studios have cubbies for any additional personal belongings.

+ Should I eat or drink before class?
We recommend hydrating before class and not practicing with a full stomach. If you need to eat go for something light.
+ Are all your classes heated?
Yes, all of our classes are heated to a minimum of 80 degrees. Not only is this a relief in cold winter months of Michigan, but it also helps your muscles relax so you can dive into poses without strain. Learn more about our classes here.
+ How often should I practice?
The more you practice, the faster you will realize the benefits of yoga. We recommend practicing at least twice a week.
+ Is there a place to change/shower?
All of our studios have both changing areas and bathrooms to get ready for class. Our West Bloomfield location has a shower equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for your convenience.
+ Do teachers provide hands-on adjustments?
Some teachers provide hands-on adjustments to students to help them fully experience the pose or relax more. Our teachers try to be mindful of your space and ask permission before touching students. If you would not like to be touched, either let the instructor or desk staff know.
+ How do I become an Ultimate Shelter Member?
We recommend new students start with our introductory package for new students. Currently, we have a special New Year's introductory offer of 60 days unlimited yoga for $125. During your introductory package, you will enjoy the same perks of our Ultimate Shelter members. Perks include: unlimited practice at all locations, 6 guest passes per year guests, discount on retail and workshops, $25 off personal yoga training and aerial parties as well as free mat rentals. + I am from out of town, can I purchase the new student special?
Our new student special is for local students only. If you are visiting from out of town, you may purchase a single class with a mat rental for $25 or our Out of Towner week unlimited for $45.
+ How do I pre-register for a class?
While we do not require pre-registration for our weekly classes, you are welcome to do so. Pre-register for classes online through MindBody or with our Yoga Shelter app. To download our app search for “Yoga Shelter” in Google Play or the App Store. Create or login to your MindBody account HERE. Whether you pre-register or not, please check in at the desk before class.
+ How can I see how many classes I have left?
Ask any of our desk staff in studio or over the phone. You can also use our Yoga Shelter app or go online and login to your Mindbody account.
+ Are my classes/membership valid at all locations?
If you are an Ultimate Shelter member you may practice in all of our studios: West Bloomfield, Royal Oak, and Grosse Pointe. If you are on a class pass, you may practice in all locations excluding Grosse Pointe.
+ Can I extend my classes?
Yes! Our 10 class pass has a five month expiration and our 20 class pass has a ten month expiration. If you still have classes after your expiration date, you may request to add one additional month to your package. If you exceed your one month extension, purchase a new class pass and we will add on your unused classes. There are no extensions, refunds, or transfers on any promotional packages. Extensions only apply to our 10 and 20 class passes.
+ Can I share my classes?
We allow class sharing only on our 50 class pass. All other class passes or memberships are non-transferable.
+ Can I suspend/cancel my membership?
Yes, to suspend or cancel your membership we require a submitted form through at least 10 days prior to the next billing cycle. Click here to fill out the suspension form. Click here to fill out the cancellation form.
Suspensions can only be requested in monthly increments, for up to three months. Following the end of the suspension, the auto pay will resume unless requested otherwise.
If you are on our unlimited monthly membership at $79, you may cancel after your three month commitment as has passed.
+ Can I get a refund?
Classes are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you believe there are special circumstances, our studio directors would be happy to assist you.
+ What is the age requirement?
You must be at least 13 years old to attend our weekly classes. All minors must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Please use discretion as a parent before bringing your child to class as our classes are intended for adults.
+ How can I be added to the email list?
Easy! Our homepage has a section to add your email to our list.
+ Do you offer discounts?
Yes! Students, seniors, military, and first responders receive 10% off all packages, including our monthly membership.
+ Do you have kids and/or prenatal yoga?
While we do occasionally offer both kids and prenatal yoga as workshops, we do not offer theses classes on our weekly schedule. Expectant mamas are welcome to attend our weekly classes particularly our Slow Flow classes. Give the teacher a heads up before class and we are happy to offer modifications for your practice. + Do you offer private sessions?
Yes! If you have a have a specific teacher in mind you may speak with them directly. You can also contact a studio manager to schedule a private with one of our instructors. Privates are $125 per hour session. Check out our AERIAL YOGA FAQ for information on aerial privates and parties.
+ Where can I park?
Our Royal Oak location has both street parking and a nearby garage. During the day we suggest parking in the Center Street Garage where the first two hours are free. If you’re coming to an evening class, there is street parking available for .50/hour or the Emagine parking garage which is $2.50 flat after 5 pm.
Our West Bloomfield location offers free parking in the Orchard Mall parking lot.
Our Grosse Pointe studio is located in the Village, directly over Trader Joe's, with easy access from the second floor of the attached garage behind the building. Parking is just .50/hour.
+ Can I practice in Grosse Pointe on a membership?
Yoga Shelter Grosse Pointe is a franchised studio, meaning it has separate owners than our West Bloomfield, and Royal Oak locations. If you live nearer to Grosse Pointe, and expect it to be your home studio, we suggest purchasing classes there. If you are an Ultimate Shelter Member, you can practice at all four studios.
