Childhood Nickname: Katiebird

When did you start teaching: I started teaching at yoga shelter in 2017

What hashtag would best describe you: #EmbraceJoy

Where can we find you outside of the studio: I'm usually at school! if not studying, I'm spending time with my wonderful partner, trying new outdoor activities or watching Netflix and cross stitching.

Favorite animal and why: Foxes! they are quick and sly but also soft and snuggly!

Who is one of your heroes: Our students! Everyone who walks through the door, who are willing to show up, get uncomfortable and to breath through the experience and do the best they can with what they have, where they are.

Favorite Quote: "Vulnerability is not winning or loosing; it's having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome." - Brené Brown

Why do you teach at Yoga Shelter: I teach at yoga shelter because that's what it has been for me. When I first joined in 2008 I desperately needed a safe place to explore my physical space, and to help connect my body and mind together. Shelter was exactly that for me. The teachers at that time created a community where it didn't matter how "broken" you were, this was a place you could come to and truly be yourself, and work to touch and heal those painful places. When I decided to come back and take the teacher training, this feeling of safety and home is what helped me decide to train with and eventually teach at yoga shelter. Hoping that we can continue to provide the safe "shelter" for everyone at every stage of our relationships with ourselves and our practice.
