During the summer of 2004, I was first introduced to yoga. At that time, I was new to recovery and too full of resistance to take up a regular practice. I just couldn’t get still enough. However, after sustaining severe injuries to my shoulder in a life-threatening car accident in 2009, I found my way onto a healing pathway that involved meditation, breathing techniques and a return to my yoga mat. There, on that rectangular space, I began to heal, experience a return in self confidence and discover an inner strength I’d never known. My passion for life grew steadily, developing into a burning desire to share this integrative practice of self discovery and transformation with others. I completed my first 200-hour RYT certification program in the spring of 2014, a second 200-hour RYT in the Summer of 2016 and am currently working toward a 500-hour certification.
Over the past year, I’ve focused my time, energy and attention on going even deeper with self work, developing a daily yoga/meditation practice, volunteering regularly for karma service projects, working with others within the recovery community and making a decision to practice compassion for all beings by transitioning to a total plant-based vegan diet.
This deeper level of work has awakened a brand new desire within me to help support others on their quests to overcome addiction, discover meaningful connections, confront old habit patterns and find healthy ways of caring for themselves. Through offering my experience, strength and hope to those pursuing the pathways of conscious breathing, living, being and doing, there isn’t any greater fulfillment I could experience, as a dedicated student and teacher of this practice.
When I’m not practicing or teaching yoga, I am writing, training for marathons, volunteering, trying new delicious vegan recipes and going on rewarding adventures with dear friends, my partner and our adorable dogs. I’m proud to serve the Yoga Shelter Community in the Greater Detroit Area and look forward to seeing you on your mat!
