Yoga Teacher Training

Deepen your practice and connection within. Our redesigned 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) is Yoga Alliance-certified and intended to blend powerful personal development & inner-connection with foundational yoga philosophy & anatomy.

NEXT TRAINING: November 2023-January 2024

Our comprehensive training program will allow you to discover the steps to put mindfulness in motion and find flexibility–both mentally and physically. Together we will build community, lead yoga classes, understand what yoga for every body looks like and leave grounded in growth.

We are excited to offer our Fall YTT in 3 consecutive modules, making YTT even more accessible! Those desiring the full YTT will sign up for the entire program while those preferring a smaller commitment can sign up for 1 or 2 modules and complete the program during our next YTT session. The modules are also a great option for current teachers who wish to deepen their knowledge in certain areas, such as anatomy and physiology or sequencing, etc.

  • Unlimited yoga for all teachers in training is included. Flexible payment plans & scholarships are available.

  • Upon completion of the program, graduates may apply for Yoga Alliance U.S. certification for RYT® 200.

OVERVIEW

Our redesigned Yoga Alliance 200 RYT program is a hybrid program offering the benefit of live virtual learning as well as the value of hands-on in person training. Trainees are nurtured and challenged to grow, open and release through self-reflection and meditation, while learning the multifaceted skill set necessary to effectively lead strong asana practices. Our learning environment is collaborative and highly interactive as we explore our lineage and study the philosophy that yields the physical, emotional, intellectual and often spiritual transformation of practicing and teaching yoga.

Our training team is led by Kathy Forgrave C-IAYT, a yoga therapist with 20 years of teaching experience. This is Kathy's 9th time facilitating an RYT 200 hour program and her 4th for BOLD Flow.

Trainees will also have the opportunity to learn from several of our talented BOLD Flow teachers who are participating in this year's training as Guest Teachers - more to come!

Graduates of our program are eligible to join Yoga Alliance as a Registered 200 hour RYT.

TEACHING TEAM

Kathy Forgrave (she/her)

YTT Lead, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, RCYT, RPYT, Master Level Reiki Practitioner

Yoga brought me healing when I was at my most vulnerable.  I enrolled in teacher training in 2001 to understand why and how blending breath, awareness, movement and stillness was so profoundly powerful.  Yoga gave me the gift of space; to breathe, to rest, to move mindfully; a sharp contrast to the mindless movement (aka a way too busy life) that had led to my significant illness. After receiving my RYT 200, my passion was to bring yoga to any and all, but especially those that felt they weren’t equipped.  Training, experience and time led me to teach yoga at Beaumont Health, to work with a pediatric practice, to bring mindfulness based yoga to school children and their teachers, and ultimately to assist in creating the Beaumont School of Yoga Therapy, where I taught the RYT 200 program for 5 years, in addition to yoga and yoga therapy classes for patient populations.

For years, my personal practice has largely been a home - based practice, periodically popping in and out of many area yoga studios. The one studio I kept returning to was BOLD Flow. I felt at home; accepted and welcomed after each and every absence. I am beyond excited in my new capacity as Director of Teacher Training and Teacher Development. We all learn best when we learn together and from each other. I feel blessed to be here.

Tina Martin (she/her)

YTT Co-Lead, RYT-200

Hola! I'm Tina. I found yoga in college 17 years ago. I moved towards it and away from it over the years, but my practice is here to stay now. Just as all things in life, there were lessons and experiences that I needed to have before I was ready to fully embark on this path, a path that was always calling me.

Among other things, I am a mother, wife, woman, sister, daughter, and friend. I was born and raised in San Jose and will always consider myself a Californian (Bay Area girl) at heart. I graduated from Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology, having wanted to become a doctor since I was 4 years old. I know now that my want to become a doctor was a deep intuition in my nature to become a healer, for myself and others.

I consider myself a free spirit, and also a fierce spirit, which I credit to my Mexican and Filipino ancestors. My teaching style aims to be vibrant, inspirational, and challenging. My hope for myself and my students is to awaken the warrior inside each and every one of us. It is the only way to face this life. For me, yoga is choosing the path of going within, of looking inside yourself for the answers, for the truth of who you are and what you are meant to do in this life. It's this idea of discovering yourself beyond the material and superficial to connect back to your truest nature and let it come alive.

Alexandra Sheth (she/her)

YTT Co-Lead, MPH, RYT-200

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan I was impacted by competitive soccer, violin, and academics. From this, my path began upon resourcing the practice of yoga as a tool to combat the common feeling known as stress. After receiving a degree in Neuroscience and Master of Public Health from The University of Michigan, I desired to align education with a personal pursuit of increasing access to mental health resources. Ultimately, this led to pursuing my RYT-200 in 2016 and Breathwork Certification in 2020. Now as an RYT of 6 years and practitioner of 11, I feel humbled to witness how the practice of yoga can evolve into a conscious lifestyle.

Combining the art of movement, breathwork, and eastern philosophy; my mission is to support individual education and communal access to somatically-based nervous system regulation tools. Collectively, this has opened the door to a novel way of approaching life through a lens of compassion, introspection, and resilience. Beyond performance, my teaching style and lifestyle is here to support others in enjoying a more embodied, present existence in connection with the beauty in humans and nature that is all around us.

Humbled to provide Yoga and Mindfulness education to a variety of groups, my experience is derived from studios and spaces across the country including Centre Academy Preschool, The University of Michigan Medical School, Field Hockey, Gymnastics, and Rugby Teams.

Passionate, curious, with a drive to empower people through movement and connection, offering Yoga Teacher Training at Bold Flow to others is a great joy and opportunity!

Emily Shamma (she/her)

YTT Contributor, RYT-200

My name is Emily Shamma and I've been teaching yoga since 2017 at Yoga Shelter and now Bold Flow Yoga. In this time, I've met the most amazing people and I've been inspired and pushed to change and grow as a human and a teacher. This brought me to the career of physical therapy and I've been a physical therapist assistant for a little over a year now. I am very excited to share my knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology to the new cohort of yoga teacher trainees!

Ashley Yono (she/her)

YTT Contributor, RYT-200

HI! My name is Ashley Yono and I took teacher training in 2016 and started teaching that year. I have been a guest teacher in previous training and love to share my knowledge on creating a safe space and forming a well rounded class for students. I also own my own business dealing with healing crystals and like to bring the power of healing energy into my classes. Can't wait to share my knowledge of yoga, healing energy and sacred space with all of the yoga teacher trainees!

“Yoga teacher training exceeded my expectations. I was challenged to get out of my comfort zone, meet my edge and also go within. I have learned so much throughout this training from history to meditation and so much more. Coming out of this, I feel confident to continue my path on this yoga journey with a supportive community behind me.” - Laura

“This experience was completely transformational for me. It allowed me to grow as a person because it helped me to look deeper and learn so much more about myself. The leaders created a safe space that offered so many opportunities for growth. I highly recommend this teaching training to anyone who is considering it. It will change you.” - Katie H.

“This was a life-changing experience. The training strengthened my yoga practice and deepened my personal meditation practice. I’ve noticed an uptick in my creativity which was an unexpected, but highly enjoyable byproduct of the various exercises and experiences we shared. The Yoga Shelter YTT program teaches you how to live your yoga off of the mat and share the gift with others. I highly recommend this program to anyone considering YTT.” - Brooke W.
